Baja, Mexico in The Sea of Cortez Sea Kayaking Adventure

baja_cool_campStunning Scenery, Soft White Sand Beaches, Marine Life, Superb Food.

This sea kayak expedition explores two of the finest sea kayaking destinations in Baja California Sur with two days in La Paz in between. "One of the top 5 sea kayak expeditions in the world" - Sea Kayaker Magazine

Two Kayak Trips totalling 11 Days of Superb Sea Kayaking...

Day 1: Fly from Auckland to Los Angeles then another short 3 hour flight to La Paz, Baja California, Mexico. Transfer to hotel in La Paz

Part One - 4 Day Isla Espiritu Santo Kayak Tour

This part of the trip allows you to enjoy the Gulf of California's most beautiful island and learn about the local conditions and hazards in preparation for the coastal expedition. There is plenty of time free to hike into the interior of the island exploring canyons with amazing rock formations and fascinating plant life. We also have time to snorkel each day and marvel at one of the world's most diverse 'natural aquariums.'

Day 2: Transfer from your hotel in La Paz to Espiritu Santo Island in a high speed motor boat. In the afternoon we embark on our first paddle beneath spectacular volcanic cliffs and arrive at the first of many beautiful beaches to set up camp.
Day 3:
Continue in our kayaks exploring a new section of coastline with small off shore islands where numerous sea birds nest. Camp on a new beach.
Day 4:
Complete our voyage to the end of the island. Final night camping on the island.
Day 5:
Fast motor boat ride to a beautiful off shore island which is home to a large sea lion colony. Experience the amazing thrill of swimming with sea lion pups and snorkel amongst thousands of tropical fish. Lunch back at camp and then pack up to return to La Paz by mid afternoon.

Part Two - 1 Day Self Tour & 1 Day Transfer to Agua Verde

You then have two nights and a full day to explore at your own cost; The city of La Paz or SCUBA dive with schooling hammerheads in the Sea of Cortez or day trip to Cabo Pulmo to dive the only Coral Reef System on the west coast of North America (good also for novice even resort uncertified divers).

The next day we travel from La Paz to  Agua Verde to Playa Portuguesa, this part is more expeditionary in style.

Day 6: Free day in La Paz
Day 7: Travel north by vehicle to Agua Verde and prepare to commence Coastal Expedition

Part Three - 7 Day Coastal Expedition

For 7 days you are overlooked by an enormous and spectacular mountain range, the Sierra de la Giganta, in many places as sheer cliffs hundreds of feet high, plunging directly into the Gulf. Rust red volcanic rock formations provide intricate caves and arches to explore and canyon lands that beckon exploration. The beaches are extraordinarily beautiful with fine soft white sand and many have canyons behind which we can explore on foot.

This area has a very low amount of seafaring traffic but an amazing amount of marine activity. You can expect daily dolphin sightings, perhaps whales and pristine snorkelling areas.

Day 8-14: Coastal Expedition and transfer back to La Paz. Farewell dinner and night in hotel.

At the conclusion of the Coastal Expedition, you are transferred back to La Paz for a complimentary farewell dinner before departing La Paz the following morning.

Day 15: Depart La Paz to Los Angeles and on to NZ
Day 17:
Arrive NZ

This trip has been designed specifically with Kiwis in mind. With the DIY culture that we have, and the "mucking in" approach to traveling we call this an Escorted Trip - your trip leader(s) are there to provide safety, local information and to organise logistics. We have found that Kiwi's prefer it this way.

  • A totally fabulous trip. The guides were great fun and really added to the experience for us. It was really something else sitting on the top of the Brown’s Island crater and looking out over Auckland as the sun was setting. Kayaking back at night was really something quite different too. I would highly recommend it.
