Eleven Days of Superb Sea Kayaking...
So, if you are hesitating about taking the plunge with Outdoor Discoveries, my advice is to go for it. Chances are that two months later you'll still have the sunshine in your eyes from that experience. - Rosie Walsh Shanghai, China (Alaska 2004)
Prince William Sound - Harriman Fjord ("Little Glacier Bay")
This fjord is a place of spectacular beauty and diversity that was only discovered 100 years ago. Numerous peaks of the Chugach Range rise from the ocean to over 9,000 feet above us. From these lofty peaks, five stunning glaciers descend into the sea.We begin outside the fjord and paddle in, letting the wonders unfold before us.
We spend a day at a beach we call "Thunder Camp" that overlooks the confluence of Cascade, Barry, and Cox glaciers. The sight and thundering sound of huge icebergs falling into the sea is a never to be forgotten experience.
Designed to maximise your experience - not to test your fitness.
Someone once wrote that man seeks the reassurance of wide open spaces and long vistas. Alaska 2004 did that and so much more for me. Under the guidance of experienced leaders who knew how to manage group dynamics, plan for unexpected contingencies and orchestrate amazing meals out of one pot, I learned to breathe again! A chance to focus only on the present, meet physical challenges and find solitude in an awesome setting made this trip a magical experience for me. At the same time I had fun making new friendships with a group of likeminded kiwis. I put much of this down to our observant and caring taskmasters in the form of Chris and Glenn. I would describe their combined talents as "intelligence with a twinkle". Real leadership is a hard thing to find, and when I see it I'm happy to applaud it!
Plus - Four Days of Incredible Hiking
The Chugach Mountains have it all! There are towering mountains, crystalline lakes, tundra and forest. There is the possibility of seeing caribou, bear, moose, wolves and dall sheep.

This trip has been designed specifically with Kiwis in mind. With the DIY culture that we have, and the "mucking in" approach to traveling we call this an Escorted Trip - your trip leader(s) are there to provide safety, local information and to organise logistics. We have found that Kiwi's prefer it this way.

On our trip with Outdoor Discoveries to Alaska we experienced a part of this planet that is unique, vast, remote & absolutely beautiful. One of the highlights for me was kayaking up to calving glaciers, it truly takes your breath away. The out of the way places we ventured into were serene, beautiful & with a "guaranteed" Bald Eagle, Bear Seal or Otter just around the next corner. The Campsites had million dollar views, the tucker was good and plentiful & the coffee, well the coffee, as the aroma wafted across the campsite at the break of dawn was something to die for. It was an unforgettable, thoroughly enjoyable holiday that I would highly recommend. - John Dwyer, 2003
